DIE HARD & DIE HARD 2 — Strange Christmas Movies #22 (of 24)

For the days leading up to Christmas, Strangers and Aliens presents 24 Christmas movies that aren’t Christmas movies, but really kind of are, for various reasons.

diehard#22 — Die Hard and Die Hard 2

What it’s supposed to be: Bruce Willis getting put through the wringer as he fights terrorists in a desperate attempt to get with his family.

Why it’s a Christmas movie: The same thing happens to the same guy twice. Christmas Eve, Christmas travel, Christmas terrorists!

Thoughts: Nothing says “peace on earth, goodwill to men” like casual killing and lots of explosions!

Oh, I already said that, didn’t I, when I was talking about Red. Well, it still applies.

Bruce Willis created a persona that he is still riding to this day. (Red would never have the same impact without it!) Without him neither of these movies would be nearly as memorable.

Does anything more need to be said? Action, blowing stuff up, Christmas, family, Bruce Willis. If anything can wash the taste of thirty viewings of Elf or Christmas Story from the mouth, this one can.

Four Bruce Willis Christmas movies? Truly, Bruno brings the cheer! Lots has been written about these as Christmas movies, so just let me add to the choir.

Is It Naughty or Nice? Four Bruce Willis Christmas movies? Truly, Bruno brings the cheer! While the sequel-itis that Die Hard 2 has could have put this one the naughty list (Really, the same thing, the same guy, the same day? Did they even try to come up with something new?), there’s no way it’s anything but…

Santa Ben’s Verdict: Nice.
