One of the things that excited me when I saw The Dark Knight Rises was the teaser for Man of Steel they played. They have two versions, apparently shipped out randomly with The Dark Knight Rises.
I was worried about Man of Steel when I learned Zack Snyder was directing. I have not seen Watchmen. I did not like Sucker Punch. And 300 was visually stunning but little more than that. And the Superman story, the Superman character, and the Superman themes are things i have a special place in my geek-heart for. And they put it in HIS hands?
So when I saw the teaser, I wasn’t sure what to think. Go ahead and take a look. My thoughts, following the video:
So, lots of water stuff. That does nothing for me. It may be vital to the film, but it makes little sense to me out of context. Clark seems to be looking for something. Like a job? Or maybe a razor made of Kryptonite so he can shave? Maybe it’s the shaving cream with small traces of Kryptonite that make it possible for him to shave.
But the kid running with a towel for a cape? THAT connects with me. Fact is, that WAS me, thirty years ago.
And the voice over, from Kevin Costner as Pa Kent? “You’re not just anyone. One day, you’re going to have to make a choice. You have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be. Whoever that man is, good character or bad, it’s going to change the world.” If this is the direction they are taking this story in, count me in. That COULD be GOOD.
That said, isn’t that quote true for everyone?
So that was Pa Kent. I did not see Jor-El’s voiceover at my theater. But I did get it here:
Not quite the same level of inspiring from Russell Crowe as Jor-El, but this bodes well.
Interesting that both of Clark’s dads have played Robin Hood . . .
I also watched Immortals with Henry Cavill to see who this guy was playing Clark Kent. Immortals was not very good, but Cavill was.
I have hope for this movie . . .
