    Wow.. I’ve been busy.

    I’d give it a B/B-

When I walked into the theater, I saw the cardboard stand for the movie, featuring a female elf I knew NOTHING about. That didn’t encourage me.

I knew they’d have to mainline a female character, but I always assumed it would be with the White Council as they force the necromancer out of Dol Guldur. I felt she was too intrusive to the story (along with Legolas) The barrel escape was rather humourous though.

The questionable animation with the orcs left much to be desired as did Gandalf’s confrontation with Sauron.

Also disappointed with their alteration of the black arrow. It took something out of it, by making it mundane. It actually subverted the whole lore regarding the black arrow.

Smaug was definitely a high point. Good animation and exchange.

Overall an entertaining film but, I agree with Ben. The film could have used more effort and thought.
